Verification vs knowledge reminds me of the distinction engineers draw between verification and validation. Verification asks whether we built the product right, meaning whether it meets its specification. Validation asks whether we built the right product, meaning whether it actually serves the people it’s meant to serve. AI can be extraordinarily good at verification--checking a result against a well-posed specification. Validation is harder, because it requires an intimate understanding of the human user: what they need, what they value. There's knowledge in both verification and validation, but verification lives more on the "is this a good answer" side while validation lives more on the "is this a good question" side.
